This One Time at Seguin’s House

Song(s) of the Post: Charlie Brown by Coldplay & Runnin’ Outta Moonlight by Randy Houser & Born in the U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen

What a long strange trip it’s been since I last wrote a post. I mean 10 days ago? Holy shirts and shoes.

Well, what didn’t happen in the sporting world? Jeez there was a lot that went down since I took my holiday hiatus. Wind the clock back and you’d see that the Stanley Cup Just ended, we all still had Hernandez jerseys, the Celtics didn’t have 9 picks in 5 years, and the Red Sox weren’t…. yes they were in first place. That hasn’t changed.

I’ll start there. The Red Sox, first place Red Sox, wow it’s nice to say that again. Top of the league in almost every team category; they are the little team that could. Sure, at the current moment they have been skidding a bit, however they are on the West Coast road trip. That always kills them. Plus their best pitchers are hurt or cautious.

The Sox will be interesting to watch, as they have all season, but this year they are never the favorite. No way, no how.

We all counted them out, and for good reason, I mean????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????…. Look.

But we did in ’04, and that team was more thrown together than this one. I’m not saying they will win the World Series, the NL is too strong, I am saying that they are going to contend every team they face for a win.

Well, the least fun story to talk about is on tap next.

The New England Patriots, oh how we loveth thee. Whether you are an opposing fan, or a hometown boy they are an interesting topic. As an away fan you want to hate on them as though they slept with you mother and sister then laughed about it. As a townie you root for them ’til pigs fly.

Away fans cannot deny the fact that they are the classiest franchise on the planet right now. They are buying back their mistake’s jersey and burning them for you. You pick a new jersey as long as your bring in the one of the team murderer.

As for the future season, it is about to be time to talk about them nonstop. In Brady we trust on offense, and fingers crossed for defense. That’s the motto recently. I’m fine with Gronk not being 100% until sometime in November because that’s when we need our offense to get strong, then for him to hit his stride come February.

I’ll go with the Celtics here, because look at that hair. spt_2_olynyk_pic_t575

Last I wrote about them we had two if not three Hall Of Famers on the team. Then Danny dropped the ball and executed a great trade for the future team.

After drafting Kelly Olynyk in the draft Ainge made a call to shape the Celtics for years to come. They sent Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry to the Nets for garbage and 3 picks in 5 years.

This may not be a good thing for some fans because they want to win and want to win now. However, the Celtics ABOSU-friggin-LUTELY need to be in the lottery this year. I don’t care how or why they do it, just get to the lottery boys. I feel that the luck will be upon them if they get there. Brad Stevens better play it right.

Not only is the top pick as coveted as LBJ, but the consolation prizes are also decently talented. My plan, which I hope you’re all on board with is to tank this year. Either sit Rondo for a year or trade him at the deadline, then get Wiggins as the first pick, him becoming Kobe, and McHale and getting back on track, then in 2018 get the Nets lottery pick for the Pippin to Wiggins’ MJ.

The NHL’s runner up, Boston Bruins have some explaining to do.

Fine, Horton walked, and yeah Ference had younger competition with better upside, but Seguin could’ve warranted a better return at say the trade deadline?

However, that’s past us and now we finally have a talented top six instead of a decent top nine. I mean yeah I liked Seguin’s potential, but that’s all it seemed like it was, potential. Perhaps it was the system, his work ethic or the millions of women in the greater Boston area that wanted him (plus entry to any bar and get out of jail free cards); that caused the trade that will shape the NHL.

I don’t see why it will be a bad trade, basically getting similar numbers and some prospects. I’m excited about the prospects, one of them, Morrow, will fit nicely in with the rest in 2-3 years. He’s a bigger sized Bartkowski. Morrow, Krug, Bartkowski, Hamilton will be a top 5 D in the NHL in 5 years. Mark. My. Words.

Then we signed Iginla, WOW!!! I mean I’m still bitter about this winter’s tease but now I’m fine that we didn’t have to give up prospects. Next thing on the list is to sign Rask and then extend Bergeron.

I’m feeling the decade of dominance will be extended a few more years.

What a game! The Bruins win and move on to the Eastern Conference Finals to face the dangerously good Pittsburgh Penguins team.

The Rangers did start off their scoring on a powerplay goal that shouldn’t have gotten through, and the Bruins penalty kill must be better. Then they responded in the 2nd period off the stick of the rookie defensemen, Torey Krug.

BLKAYDjCIAImhnUThen Gregory Campbell notched 2 more; one being an empty netter.

So now we look forward to the Penguins. Led by Sidney Crosby, backed by Evgeni Malkin, and enforced by Matt Cooke. The Bruins have quite the handful coming at them.

Looking at each of their lines, and the defensemen as a whole, plus the goalies, I’ll break down the teams and who has the edge.

Offense line one: Edge- Penguins
They have Crosby and that’s enough to make the Panthers’ line one have an edge. Although the Krejci-Lucic-Horton line can make some noise, they’ll need to bring it ALL.

Offense line two: Edge-Penguins
Malkin, versus Bergeron, will be the match-up to watch as the centers will battle for every inch. The storyline here is how can Jagr break out against his ex-team? He’s been begging for a goal and nothing would be sweeter than for it to come in this series.

Offense line three: Push
The Bruins have Seguin, who is on the verge of breaking out the past few games. He has yet to really gel with his linemates. However, on the otherside of the puck, the Penguins have Matt Cooke, who we all know. And he is very dirty and will probably injure one of these three early on.

Offense line four: Edge- Bruins
Well, because clearly, our fourth line is better than your fourth line.

Defense: Edge- Bruins
They have more depth here. If I were Julien, I’m not breaking up the pairing of Chara and Seidenberg and shutting Crosby down as much as possible, not to mention the sweet taste we can get if Iginla doesn’t score. However, that is relying heavily on the other four Bruins D-men to shut down Neal, Malkin, and the lot of them. If Krug continues his pace he might be a Norris trophy candidate.

Goalies: Edge- Bruins
Tuukka is not going to be a fan of seeing the horse-face of Crosby smile every time they score. He has had scrutiny and let up a joke goal. He is not going to want to do that again. Vokoun is a joke of a goalie, he has 1.9 goals against because the Penguins played against Ottowa who’s only offense is Daniel Alfredsson. Fluerry is no match for a Krug one timer. Khudobin can keep the bench warm, but if he comes off it expect heart-attack-Tim Thomas saves.

I want the Bruins to win in 6 at home; but something’s telling me Penguins in 7.

+ My review shifted pro-Bruins a little while in. + The first song is honorarily called I believe in a thing call KRUG

The Bigger Storyline-Bruins

Well, after 3 periods, an overtime, and a shootout. The Canadiens are in first place in the division.

After erasing a two-goal deficit and turning into a two-goal lead, then blundering that into a tie, then losing it in the shootout is just awful. Especially to a team as slimy, grimy and pathetic as the Montreal Canadiens.

They do deserve to be in first, they played a hell of a game. But flopping is acceptable in soccer, not on the ice. They should know that, Canada basically invented the game.

The NHL needs to notice something about the diving/embellishment in the game lately. I mean, hey that means the sport is competitive but there needs to be a little change to that.

I don’t agree with anyone who says the NHL needs to ban fighting. If you’ve played any form of hockey, you understand the need to stick up for teammates and how frustrating it gets out there.

UntitledI’ll be fighting kids in intramural floor hockey.

However, the game was well played by the Bruins, and anyone who watched it knows the Habs got lucky. Bounced puck off of Seidenberg’s face and past Rask. A tip in by Chara… and then a questionable penalty in the last few minutes. I can’t say that the Canadiens were impressive. Although their backup goalies seem to be better than their starters. Remember Halak? And wayyyyy back when, Ken Dryden?ClassicRivalry

(Thanks a lot bin Laden!)

It is interesting how slowly word got out and connections were made between the Bruins resting prospects and Iginla being a healthy scratch. Social media huh?

And yes, it is, in my belief (12:03 Am) that Iginla will be a Bruin sooner than later. My speculations are that the Bs are trading Bartkowski, Khokhlachev, and a pick will be sent to Calgary for Iginla if he is willing to sign for 2+ years.

This might just help them offensively. And lORRd knows we need it.  The past two games they have shot and had way to many chances for them not to be going in the net. They need offense, they need more. I want more goals, we want more.

This is going to be a good move. I feel that we are giving up a lot of potential talent and it almost makes sense because we have a young core team and a budding AHL affiliate.

Iginla plays the way Cam Neely does, and in Black and Gold that is just fine with us. Maybe his play can rub off on good ol’ boy Lucic. I mean why not?

I feel the lines are going to be as follows:

Iginla will have good feeds from Krejci and with his soft hands and hard shot there will be goals aplenty. Lucic, who is overrated will fit just perfectly against some of the competition’s third-liners. As for the other two lines, keep them as they are, the chemistry is already there and production will fall in place. The defense, which has given up a few leads, is starting to worry me. Chara and Seidenberg can’t both play a half hour night in and night out. Dougie, who is good offensively isn’t strong enough to compete with a power forward just yet. Ference is what you’ve been getting the past few years so he’s fine. McQuaid and Boychuk are getting to be missed. As far as Aaron Johnson and Krug, they are doing ok but they can’t quite sustain the level of play that the injured pair can.

We will make the playoffs and it seems like there is just a small piece missing, maybe its that offensive touch, maybe its that we’re missing that little guy from Michigan in net. All I know is that the playoffs will be interesting.

As a fan, I want the cup. If in I’m the organization, I want an early exit. We got 82 games next year fellas.

+ Yes, that’s my UNH Confession, I’m like Marchand out there.
